Where our foods comes from
The best things don’t travel far.
At Ollie’s Market, we believe good food starts closer to home. We source from local farms, Texas producers, regional food makers and independent brands whenever we can — choosing the food on our shelves and in our kitchens with a little more intention.
For us, local sourcing isn’t about checking a box. It’s about knowing more about the food we serve, keeping more of our dollars within the communities around us, and building relationships with the people who grow and make the things we love.
From our neighborhood food company in San Marcos and New Braunfels, we’re working toward a more connected Central Texas food system — one farmer, maker and meal at a time.
Local First. Regional Next.
Our approach is simple: source as close to home as it makes sense to.
We start by looking to farmers, ranchers, bakers and independent makers in San Marcos, New Braunfels and the communities around Central Texas. When something can’t reasonably be sourced locally, we look regionally and beyond for producers whose quality and values fit what we’re building at Ollie’s.
Local doesn’t mean everything we sell comes from down the road. Coffee, tea, and certain pantry staples simply don’t grow here year-round. What it does mean is that we ask where our food comes from and whether there’s an opportunity to choose something closer to home.
As Ollie’s grows, we hope our buying power does too — allowing us to purchase more from small farms and independent producers throughout our region.
Why eat local?
Does buying local food support the local economy?
Yes! Buying from local farmers, food producers and independent businesses helps keep more economic activity within the region and creates demand for businesses producing food closer to home.
Is locally sourced food better for the environment?
It can be. Food grown or produced closer to where it is eaten can require less long-distance transportation, particularly when the supply chain is short. But distance is only one part of a food’s environmental impact; how it is grown, produced, packaged and transported matters too.
Is local food fresher?
Often, especially when it comes to seasonal produce. A shorter journey between farm and market can mean less time spent in transportation and storage.
It also allows us to build relationships with growers and respond to what’s actually growing in our region rather than expecting every ingredient to be available every day of the year.
Does Ollie’s market sell organic food?
Yes! Organic products and ingredients are an important part of what we source at Ollie’s. We also work with local and regional producers whose products may not always carry an organic certification but meet the quality standards we look for.
Rather than relying on a single label, we want to understand who made something, where it came from and how it was produced.
Does everything at Ollie’s Come from Texas?
No — and we think transparency about that matters.
Our goal is to source close to home whenever it makes sense, not to make a claim we can’t consistently keep. We prioritize local and regional relationships while also carrying thoughtfully selected products from farther away when there isn’t an appropriate local option.
Where does Ollie’s source its food?
Ollie’s Market sources food and products from a growing network of local farms, Central Texas producers, regional suppliers and independent makers.
Our kitchens follow the same philosophy as our shelves. We look for ingredients we’re proud to cook with and food we’re comfortable serving our own families.
Why does Ollie’s prioritize local and regional sourcing?
Because we want Ollie’s to contribute to the food system around us, not simply sell food within it.
Every relationship we can build with a nearby farmer, baker, rancher or maker gives our customers another way to support the people producing food in our region — and gives those producers another place to reach their community.
